Born to Paint

A native of the Pacific Northwest and a graduate of Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington (B.A. in Art: Drawing/Painting/Printmaking), Timothy comes from a family of artists--four art professors or teachers within two generations. From as far back as he can remember, he was instructed in art and encouraged in visual expression.

The Impressionists have inspired Timothy, not only in their approach to painting and its application, but also in their supportive community. Many of his landscapes and portraits are also expressionist in nature, as communicating emotion through color is paramount. Movement is also key. Timothy has made travels to Europe to study art. Two of his favorite stops have been Monet’s house and garden at Giverny and the Musee D’Orsay in Paris (especially the room devoted to Van Gogh). Timothy also owns a landscaping business that allows him to study landscapes and to travel all over Whidbey Island to find inspiration. He has been known to bring a camera and his pochade box along to do quick plein air studies.

Timothy is a member of the Penn Cove Gallery in Coupeville, Washington. He has exhibited at Whitworth’s Koeller Gallery and also has work available through Whidbey Made in Oak Harbor, Washington. Accepted into the Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival’s Juried Art Show three times, he won 2nd Place in 2-D in 2017 and 1st Place in 2-D in 2018. He was also awarded “Best Artist 2019” in the Whidbey News Group’s “Best of Whidbey” Readers Choice Awards. He is a member of the Whidbey Working Artists and has had very successful Summer Studio Tours for the past couple of years. In October of 2019, he was chosen out of more than 100 artists to paint a 12’x20’ mural of old town Oak Harbor and its historic dock for the Allgire Project. Timothy has demonstrated painting at the advanced level to high school students and has also been involved in many alternative shows and pop-up galleries (“Skulpt!” And “Skulpt Too!” in conjunction Northwest Stone Sculptors Association, as well as solo shows at Oak Harbor’s Lotus Tea Bar and US Bank, for example) where he often demonstrates painting. A demonstration highlight has been a depiction of a giant oak as a “sermon illustration” for Life Church in Oak Harbor, Washington, on stage to an audience of over two hundred people. This 4’x5’ piece was completed in three thirty-minute intervals over a period of three weeks.
