Nick Chrisman
Cello
Nick Chrisman, 22, began playing the cello at the age of four, and started the viola da gamba in the fifth grade with Seattle Historical Arts for Kids. He is a recent graduate of Kivie Cahn-Lipman’s studio at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI), where he received a dual degree in cello performance and classics. Last autumn, Nick studied abroad in Vienna, where he was a student of Claire Pottinger-Schmidt, on baroque cello and viola da gamba. He has also had the pleasure of learning from William Skeen, Sarah Cunningham, Michael Unterman, Phoebe Carrai, and Sarah Freiberg in workshops and masterclasses. Nick now plays with the UW Baroque Ensemble and is a teaching artist with Seattle Historical Arts for Kids. He is also an avid chamber musician on modern cello, with a passion for the music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. When Nick isn’t making music, he can often be found baking, doing a crossword, or hanging out with his two cats, Liam and Jasper.
