Rediscovered Bach
“The organ is in my eyes and ears the king of all instruments.”
― Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Join us for an extraordinary afternoon as we celebrate a landmark moment in Baroque scholarship - new music by Bach! For the first time on Whidbey Island, the baroque organ at St. Augustine’s in-the-woods will resound with the of two newly authenticated organ masterpieces by Johann Sebastian Bach: the Chaconne and Fugue in D minor, BWV 1178 and the Chaccone in G minor, BWV 1179.
These works were found in a manuscript (Ms II 3911 Mus) at the Royal Library of Belgium by Bach researcher Peter Wollny, and were attributed to Bach just last year after years of scholarship and research. With works for violin and organ by Bach and more!
